Akshay Kumar's Pad Man banned in Pakistan for being 'against culture'

Pad Man, starring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte, will not see the light of day in Pakistan. The Federal Censor Board (FCB) of our neighbouring country has not only denied Pad Man a certificate but its members have also refused to watch the film, saying that it is based on a "taboo subject".
The film, directed by R Balki, aims to create awareness about menstrual hygiene and sanitary pads. Pad Man is inspired by the story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, who invented a low-cost machine to make sanitary pads.
Talking about why he chose to do the film, Akshay Kumar told India Today Television, "Nobody wants to talk about it. They think it's a taboo thing. They think unki izzat kam ho jayegi if they even speak about it. It's high time that we brought it in front of everyone."
However, the FCB does not agree with the actor. "We can't allow our film distributors to import films which are against our traditions and culture," Ishaq Ahmed, a member, said.
Another member echoed his sentiments and added, "We can't allow the screening of films on taboo subjects in our cinemas as it is not in our culture, society or even religion."
Syed Noor, a renowned Pakistani filmmaker, said that their distributors and exhibitors should monitor the films which are brought from other countries. "Not only this film Padman but I think even Padmaavat should not have been released in Pakistan as it portrays Muslims in a very negative light," he said.
