MAPUSA: Barely eight months at the helm of affairs at the Pernem Municipal Council (PMC), chairperson Usha Nagvekar and her deputy Deepak Mandrekar have tendered their resignations from the posts. Sources said that Nagvekar and Mandrekar, who were elected to the posts on June 10, 2017, had resigned on the basis of mutual understanding to pave the way for other councillors in the panel.

The post of PMC chairperson is reserved for a woman. Sources said that after consultation with local MLA and tourism minister Manohar Azgaonkar, Shradha Mashelkar is in contention for the post with two-time councillor Prashant Gadekar as her deputy. Sources said the 25-year-old is a polytechnic student and will be the youngest PMC chairperson.
