New Delhi, Feb 11: As many as 11912 cases were settled and over Rs 70 crore were recovered from defaulters during Lok Adalats held across the state at district and tehsil levels and in both the wings of Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

The National Lok Adalat were held in both the wings of Jammu and Kashmir High Court during which cases of varied natures were settled and a compensation amount of over Rs 2 crore was also awarded.

An amount of Rs. 8.50 crore was awarded as compensation in MACT cases and an amount of Rs 62.00 crore was settled in Bank recovery suits in the said Lok National Adalats.

At Bandipora, 454 cases were taken up for hearing during the Lok Adalat organized by District Legal Services authority. As many as 216 cases were settled and a settlement amount of Rs. 33 lakh was awarded.

At Sopore,  210 cases of various natures including Criminal, Bank cases, MACT cases, Matrimonial, Revenue were taken for hearing and 106 cases were settled on the spot. Moreover, Rs 12 lakh was realized as settlement amount besides an amount of Rs 25000 was also realized as fine in various cases.

At Anantnag, 325cases related to MACT, Recovery suits, Electricity cases, Traffic challans, Civil and Matrimonial cases were taken up, out of which 238 cases were settled amicably and Rs 26750were realized as fine in electricity and traffic challans. Total settlement amount realized in all settled cases in the district was is Rs 969960.

At Pulwama, various criminal compound matters, cases under NI Act, MACT matrimonial, bank matters, civil and cases pertaining to public utilities, labour disputes and pre-litigation were taken up for amicable settlement.

At Kulgam, a Lok Adalat was held in which 291 cases were taken up for hearing.

Out of the total cases, 235 cases of different nature were amicably settled, besides an award of Rs 14211786 was also passed in favour of victims in MACT cases.
