TN has unveiled helpline for students to clarify doubts and beat stress

Chennai: Tamil Nadu school education minister K A Sengottaiyan has said a round-the-clock helpline has been set up by the state government, to help students clarify doubts and beat stress. Speaking at an awards event in the city, he said students can feel free to contact the 24x7 helpline by dialing 14417. "All information regarding education will be available. Also, if students are in stress, remedies will be suggested," he said.

Stating that new syllabus is being implemented in state-run schools, he said, "once this is done, the standard (of curriculum) will be more than that of CBSE."

Also, from the next academic year, the school education department has decided to introduce new uniforms for students of government and aided schools.

Sources in the department said the idea is to ensure that students of government institutions should not feel themselves inferior than their counterparts in private schools in any way.

Lately, many changes are being implemented in the school education department. The main shift was the decision not to announce the names of the toppers in classes 10 and 12 public examinations, in a bid to reduce pressure among students.
