Cooperative society cheats depositors of Rs 12 lakh

HUBBALLI: A cooperative society has been accused of shutting its operations and making away customers' deposits worth lakhs of rupees.

According to a police complaint lodged by one Shobha Meti, Samruddhi Jeevan Foods India Limited and Samruddhi Jeevan Multistate Multipurpose Cooperative Society, which were situated at Vishnu Priya Complex, cheated customers. The Kundgol-based complainant has lodged the complaint against Kishan Motewar, the founder of the society who is a resident of Pune, and eight others.


Shobha said that she and her husband deposited Rs 4.50 lakh while other customers invested Rs 7.50 lakh in the form of fixed deposit and recurring deposit. The office was closed when the maturity were approaching.


Sub-urban police have registered a case in this regard. Inspector M P Sarvagol told TOI that 14 agents were employed with the society.
