PUNE: The state government has sanctioned Rs 1.30 crore for the infrastructure development of the brake testing track at
Dive Ghat.
On Friday last week, transport minister
Diwakar Raote visited the regional transport office (RTO) and asked officials to submit a detailed plan to his department for further development of the facility.
An RTO official said the sanctioned amount would reach the public works department and there would be much infrastructure development at the testing track. At present, the facility has five tracks and the officials check and issue fitness certificates to around 250 vehicles every day.
"We can increase the number to 350 a day, for which we need more officers," the official said, adding that the facility was plagued by a plethora of problems for long.
"The fitness certificates can only be issued to vehicle owners a day after the test. This means, a person appearing for the test have to either stay back or revisit Saswad to collect the certificate. This is happening because of poor internet facility," another official said.
"Uninterrupted power was also a concern, which was sorted on Tuesday. We will take up the issues with the minister on Friday and expect the overall situation to improve," he added.

Pimpri Chinchwad also has a track and it has been decided to conduct checks of small commercial vehicles such as autorickshaws there. Big commercial vehicles, however, have to come to Dive Ghat."
