Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego Give 2017 Distinguished Award to Ashford University

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 10: On January 17, 2018, Ashford University received the 2017 Distinguished Award from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego. This award recognizes organizations that provide strong support to the nonprofit over a number of years.

Ashford University has partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego for more than eight years. Ashford University contributes annually to this branch through the nonprofit's Life Changers Club, a way for businesses or individuals to support or "adopt" a single club site location. Thanks in part to Ashford's annual gifts, the Clairemont branch can provide local kids with a range of activities, including after-school homework assistance, physical activity, nutrition classes, field trips, and more.

"Ashford University is honored to receive this award, especially since it reflects two of our philanthropic pillars—education and youth outreach," said Jim Smith, senior vice president of finance at Ashford University, and Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego board member. "We are proud of our long partnership with the Clairemont branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, and we are humbled to know that our support impacts the lives of at-risk youth."

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego provides after-school programming for young people in the San Diego area. They aim to enhance the development of children and young adults by equipping them with resources to thrive. The nonprofit's Clairemont branch serves 2,141 youth each year, with 82 percent of them living at or below the poverty line.
