Telugu romantic drama, Tholi Prema, starring Varun Tej and Raashi Khanna, opened to tremendous buzz and anticipation in the US on February 8, ahead of its release in India, on February 9, and the film has already become a box office success, courtesy its overseas collection. Trade analysts have revealed that the film has already collected almost Rs 1 crore from just its preview shows. Senior film critic and trade analyst, Taran Adarsh tweeted, ” Telugu film #TholiPrema has an IMPRESSIVE start in USA… Thu previews $ 151,967 [₹ 97.79 lakhs] / 100 locations @Rentrak (sic).”
The film also debuted at no 25 at the US Box office on Friday ie yesterday. Adarsh tweeted, “Telugu film #TholiPrema debuts at No 25 at USA BO on Fri…Thu previews $ 152,171, Fri $ 139,093 / 102 locationsTotal: $ 291,264 [₹ 1.87 cr] @Rentrak.”Critics and fans seem to have loved this romantic comedy entertainer that has been written and helmed by debutante, Venky Atluri and produced by BVSN Prasad under his banner Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra. Tholi Prema is based on the life of Aadhi (Varun Tej) who is a fun loving guy, extremely focused in his life with his studies and the future. Things get interesting when he falls in love with Varsha (Rashi Khanna) the moment he lays eyes on her during a trip. Unable to meet her right away, the two have a serendipitous encounter in college after a span of six months. Love blooms, however, they are forced to part ways due to an unfortunate incident. Six years later, they cross paths again, and this is when the story takes off. The film has garnered positive responses from fans on the micro-blogging site. From calling it a sweet and emotional romantic drama to a must watch romantic “feel good film”, fans have been praising the film a lot on Twitter.
