The Delhi Police claimed to have arrested two bootleggers and seized over 7,000 liquor bottles worth around ₹30 lakh concealed in an especially-designed cavities in a truck on Friday morning.
Tip-off
Truck driver Anish Kumar and his helper Sunil Singh were arrested from Mathura Road near Badarpur border following a tip-off. The accused were allegedly transporting liquor from Punjab’s Ambala to Bihar and Gujarat, which are dry States, the police said.
Secret chamber
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal said the truck, which bore a Rajasthan registration number, had a secret chamber in the rear end of the vehicle that was nearly impossible to detect.
The truck, which was loaded with plywood to hoodwink police personnel at border posts, is fitted with a GPS tracker.
The carriers were instructed to meet their associates at Kosi Kalan near Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. From there, the smuggled liquor bottles were to be delivered to Gujarat and Bihar through separate teams.
“The gang leader has several drivers and changes drivers from the point of origin to the point of destination to keep them in the dark about the operation,” added the officer.
