Thobejane in the dog box at Baroka

2018-02-10 16:25

Cape Town - Baroka coach Kgoloko Thobejane has been suspended by the ABSA Premiership club as they look to address a poor run of form in the new year.

The 48-year-old has endured a turbulent career with Bakgaga, who demoted him in January 2017 after his side dropped to the foot of the table - just nine months after winning promotion.

However, Thobejane was reinstated a month later when his replacement, Jacob Sakala, got himself suspended, and managed to stave off relegation last season via the play-offs.

The Limpopo outfit made an impressive start to the new campaign, going unbeaten in the league until October 22, but they have won just twice since then to fall out of contention for the title.

Baroka CEO Morgan Mammila has refuted claims, though, that Thobejane had been disciplined for drinking on the job, after he reportedly consumed alcohol with his layers on the team bus after the 2-0 defeat to Free State Stars last weekend.

"Yes it's true. The coach has been suspended," Mammila told Times Live.

"No there's no such thing [allegations of drinking]. No‚ it's not that. That's just people speculating.

"It's an internal matter, but surely it's not the allegation of Free State Stars."
