MU Senate poll results declared

The results of the first phase of Senate elections held at Mumbai University were declared on Friday.

Six seats for management representatives were won unopposed by Hrishikesh Pol, Sanjay Shetye, Neel Helekar, Hasmukh Rambhiya, Shilpa Patwardhan (reserved for women) and Subhash Waghmare (Scheduled Castes).

The 10 seats in the Principals’ category were won unopposed by Vithal Shivankar, Ajay Bhamre, Shyam Joshi, Tushar Desai and Nagendranath Pandey (all in the open category). The other seats were won by Anjua Palsuledesai (reserved for women), Vithal Rokde (Scheduled Caste), Mahandappa Gonda (Nomadic Tribes and Denotified Tribes), and Dhanaji Gurav (Other Backward Castes). The seat for the Scheduled Tribes was left vacant as no candidate stood for elections.

Three seats were reserved for Mumbai University Teachers constituency. Thirteen contenders were in the fray and 165 of 174 voters cast their votes. Nine votes were declared invalid. The votes were counted on Friday at Mumbai University’s Fort campus. Dr. Suresh Maind (open category), Dr. Sangita Pawar (reserved for women) and Dr. Mridul Nile (reserved for Scheduled Castes) were declared winners from the teachers’ category.
