Munshiganj district unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party held a rally on Saturday, protesting against the jailing of the party’s chairperson Khaleda Zia.

BNP chaipersson’s adviser and Munshiganj BNP president Abdul Hye presided over the meeting held on the party office premises at Thanar Pool of the district town at around 11am.

Munshiganj BNP vice-prsident Ali Asgar Mallik Ripon, sadar upazila unit president Mohammad Mohiuddin, Munshiganj town unit president AKM Iradat Manu, senior vice-president Mohammad Shahin Mia, general secretary Shaidul Islam, Juba Dal district unit president Tareq Qasem Khan Mukul, former chairman of Panchosar union Habibur Rahman, Munshiganj town Juba Dal unit president Enamul Haq, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal district unit president Aminul Islam Zasim, general secretary Masud Rana, and Swechchhasebok Dal’s district unit president Awald Hossain Uzzal, among others, addressed the protesting people.

Terming the imprisonment of Khaleda Zia a political vengeance, the BNP leaders said the government, through the punishment, is trying to make her ineligible for the next general election.

The warned of cvountrywide unrest if government intervenes the Appellate Division’s decision in the graft case.
