Akhilesh’s visit to Allahabad University may get cancelled

ALLAHABAD: Even as student leaders belonging to ABVP (Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad) are up in arms against SCS (Samajwadi Chatra Sabha) over the proposed visit of former CM and SP national president Akhilesh Yadav to the campus of Allahabad University, the notification for the bypoll of Phulpur parliamentary seat is all set to derail the event.
Taking the first step, AU authorities have asked the president of AU student union Avnish Yadav to cancel the proposed program of his own. "I have written to AUSU president that since the model code of conduct is enforced, the permission, earlier granted by the varsity authorities stands withdrawn", said varsity chief proctor Prof Ram Sevak Dubey. He has been asked to either cancel the event by his own or we would be taking the necessary action and see to it that the event is not organised, he added.

The proctor further said that since it is the event, involving national president of political party, the progamme cannot be apolitical and as such this cannot be permitted on the campus.

Meanwhile, SP, of its own, is also mulling over the issue whether Akhilesh attending the function violates code of conduct or not. "We are discussing the issue within ourselves and SP would not anything which violates the code of conduct including the proposed visit of our national president", said SP spokesperson, Richa Singh. She, in 2015, had hogged the limelight by opposing the visit of the present CM, Aditya Nath Yogi into AU campus.

However, the opposition by ABVP, on the issue, continued on the campus and in the city. As the campus was closed, on being Saturday (AU works for five days a week), a group of student leaders, led by Rana Yashwant Pratap Singh, staged their protest at the Commissioner's office. They were demanding that the district administration should not permit the former CM coming on the campus.

ADM city took a memorandum from the agitating student leaders. "The official met us and assured that Akhilesh Yadav's program has been canceled", said Rana.

He added that ABVP had been opposing the event as in 2015, Yogi was declined permission saying that his visit would create law and order problem. Now, the situation is same and moreover now after the notification of bypoll, the visit of SP's president will flout the model code of conduct.
