A 25-year-old woman employee of a private airline and her colleague have accused a group of handlers at Mangaluru International Airport of assaulting them and outraging their modesty early on Saturday. The accused have filed a counter complaint accusing supporters of the woman of assaulting them.
According to the Bajpe police, the incident occurred near the site of the 2010 air crash site in Adyapady.
The woman and her colleague were in a car parked at the site around 1 a.m. They had attended a party hosted by their colleague in a hotel in the city.
The woman was to be dropped at her house in Urwa. A group of handlers at the airport, who are residents of Adyapady, were returning from work on their two-wheelers when they reportedly noticed the car near the site.
In her complaint, the woman said the group, on finding her and her colleague in the car, damaged the car and assaulted the two.
They forced the two to come out of the car and hand over their ATM cards.
The group reportedly snatched her gold chain.
The group allegedly left the place seeing the woman’s supporters coming to the site in some vehicles. Later, the woman and her colleague were admitted to a private hospital.
In the counter complaint, the accused said that they went to see why the car had been parked at the site.
When they went near the car, the woman and her friend allegedly became anxious and quickly drove away.
In the process, the car hit the motorcycle of one of the handlers in the group and then hit an embankment.
There was exchange of words between the duo and the group members when the latter asked for money for repairing the motorcycle. The duo handed over their ATM cards to a few members, who left to bring the amount.
When they returned, some among them had been assaulted by a group of persons associated with the woman, they alleged.
