The Capital’s citizens will be issued health cards, replete with electronic records of their medical history, ongoing treatment and prescription details, by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. The health cards will entitle them to free medical service at government-run establishments.
Expected to be launched later this year, all residents of Delhi will be issued an ‘aam aadmi health card’, for which the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) has floated an Expression of Interest (EOI). The DGHS has said that interested companies and agencies can submit their proposals on the proposed cards by February 28.
Free medical services
As per the EOI, the government will issue health cards to all residents, including toddlers and senior citizens, through which they will get free medical services in State-run healthcare institutions such as hospitals, Mohalla Clinics and poly clinics.
“The health card will be provided to every citizen. For initial registration, a person aged 18 years and above will have to provide his or her voter identity card of Delhi and the Aadhaar Card. It will be issued to those aged more than one year only after their Aadhaar Card number is provided,” a senior government official said.
Electronic records
The official added that electronic health records of all residents will be collated through a centralised web-based application.
“The move will facilitate residents of Delhi, approximately 1.8 crore of them, in availing healthcare facilities by issuing ‘aam aadmi health card,” the EOI stated.
The government said the proposed health insurance scheme, announced by Health Minister Satyendra Jain last year, will also be launched for Delhiites.
