New Delhi, Feb 10: Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj has claimed that no major changes have been made by the United States in the H-1B programme. She also added that India is constantly in touch with the US administration and US Congress over the issue.

While replying to Congress Rajya Sabha member Rajeev Shukla’s question, Swaraj said that the changes in the H-1B programme have been made for the enforcement of the existing rules strictly so that there is no misuse of the rule. Shukla had raised concern over the issue on January 4.

Assuring Shukla, she said that the government is keeping a close watch on the issue and is in touch with all the stakeholders to protect the interests of Indian techies and employers in the United States.

Earlier in January, the Trump administration – in a huge relief to over 7,50,000 Indians working in the US – has said it is not considering any proposal that would force H-1B visa holders to leave the country. As per the current announcement, all foreign workers, most of them Indians in the IT sector, working in several US companies under the H-1B visa norm, have got an extension beyond the stipulated period of six years.
