Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac on Friday inaugurated the Haritha Nagara Yatra, organised as part of the city Corporation's ‘Ente Nagaram, Sundara Nagaram’ waste management programme. The yatra was organised with an aim to create awareness among students about the wide-ranging waste management activities taken by the local body.
The students will also be made participants in the citizen feedback as part of the Swachh Survekshan-2018, the third survey conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, as part of the ambit of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).
Survey
The survey covering all cities across the country is being held in the months from January to March. The objective of the survey is to encourage citizen participation and foster a spirit of healthy competition among towns and cities to improve their service delivery to citizens.
The Swachh Survekshan will collect feedback on the progress made by the city in achieving cleanliness. The public can register their feedback at https://www.swachhsurvekshan2018.org. The Mayor has requested the public across the city to take part in the survey.
Dr.Isaac, in his inaugural speech, said that the city has fared well despite the closing of the centralised waste treatment facility, through a disciplined approach to waste management at source. Mayor V.K.Prasanth presided over the function.
The local body had earlier began the green army initiative among school and college students to create awareness among the city residents on the importance of waste treatment at source. The students have been trained in the various techniques of waste treatment at home, segregation of waste and sensitised on the harmful effects of burning of waste. The Corporation plans to train more students in the coming days to expand the green army to more number of wards.
