The left arm spinner claimed his 415th scalp when he dismissed Taijul Islam in the second session on the third day of the second Test match against Bangladesh in Dhaka.
Herath took four wickets in the second innings after going wicketless in the first as the Lankans beat the hosts by a whopping 215 runs to clinch the series 1-0.
Previously, Herath became the first left arm spinner to cross the 400 wicket mark, and the fifth spinner behind legends such as Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne and the Indian pairing of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh.
The veteran spinner, Herath has been a huge contributor to Sri Lanka’s change in fortunes after a dismal show against India.
Before the two-Test series in Bangladesh began, Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal praised Herath when he said, “He is a wily old fox. He can do what he wants to do. He is a big asset in our team.”
Last year, Herath became the most successful left-arm spinner in Test cricket history after overtaking New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori’s tally of 362 Test wickets.
