
Band commemorates Navy Day
The band is being conducted by commander Satish Champion and the first programme was held in Express Avenue Mall in Chennai on Friday and a symphonic band concert is being held today at Kalaivanar Arangam in the city.
Governor of Tamil Nadu, Banwarilal Purohit has consented to be the chief guest for the concert, said a press release from the PIB's defence wing here, and added that entry for the event is by invitation.
A band performance by the beach is scheduled at Puducherry at 6.15 pm on February 11 to mark the culmination of the celebrations. Lieutenant governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi has consented to be the chief guest for the event, which is open for all.
It is to be noted that the Indian Coast Guard too has been conducting many events to celebrate its 42nd raising day. It recently organised a 156-km bi-cycle rally from Chennai to Puducherry.
The objective of the event was to promote awareness among coastal populace and fishermen on aspects of safety at sea, security, Swachhata Hi Seva, Swachha Sagar Abhiyan and to create awareness about the career in Indian Coast Guard.
