Nepal King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev on Friday said the Nepal royal family would not be able to supply Kasturi (musk) for Lord Jagannath in the Shreemandir in Puri as it has been declared as a banned item worldwide.

“It is a banned item worldwide. Now, it is not possible to supply Kasturi for Lord Jagannath,” said the Nepal King at the ‘Pattabhisheka’ of Gobardhan Peeth Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati here.

Notably, the royal family of Nepal had been supplying Kasturi for Lord Jagannath since long.

To mark the occasion of Pattabhisheka, the 25th year completion celebration of the Shankaracharya, a two-day religious discourse began under the aegis of the Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in the Gobardhan mutt complex on the day. The Nepal King said that Lord Jagannath of Puri and Nepal have a special bond since time immemorial. He recounted the days when his ancestors visited Puri and had darshan of the holy Trinity.

He presented Sankaracharya a live “Salagram” of Ganduki river, which is considered the most sacred, covered in a silver box with royal insignia on it, a special gold coin minted in Nepal for this occasion and a rare Rudraksha Mala.

Puri Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb and Sanskrit scholar Harekrushna Satpathy were present on the dais.

Later, the Nepal King called on Dibyasingha Deb at the latter’s palace.
