A day after 21-year-old Abhishek Kashyap died due to his throat slit with metallic wire fences attached to police barricades in North West Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party convener Gopal Rai visited the house of the deceased and promised Rs 5 lakh compensation.

While talking to the media, Rai, who also holds an Urban Development portfolio in Delhi Government, attacked the Central Government and the Delhi Police for their negligence which caused death of young Delhi Police aspirant.

“In a recent Union Budget, the Centre did not propose any concrete plan to fill the vacant post for police personnel. It is out open in the public domain that the Delhi Police is suffering with deficiency of staff due to which they have started attaching these fences at barricades to fill in for a policeman. This is absurd approach to curb crime in the capital,” he said.

Rai promised Abhishek’s family that the Delhi Government is bound to provide all the basic help to the family and standing by them in these tough times.

However, Abhishek’s family has expressed dissatisfaction with the compensation amount offered by the Delhi Government and stated that; “The Government is trying to tag a value of my son’s life. The amount offered by them is equivalent to one hoarding of their party.”

Sunita Kashyap, Abhishek’s mother said Gopal Rai took time to meet the family. “These Ministers are big and high profile people. Any money cannot fill the void in my heart. I want strict punishments for the officers due to whose negligence my son died,” she said.

Sanjeev Kumar, Abhishek’s father said, “We would like to demand Government job for our elder daughter. Abhishek was affording the expenses of whole family. Now he is not alive anymore and we don't think Rs 5 lakh is enough to compensate the loss of my son.”

Locals in the area exhibit their anger at the Delhi Police laxity. Abhishek’s family, along with his friends and close aides, took out a candle march in Shakupur area and staged a protest.
