BICHOLIM: Tense moments were witnessed at Gaonkarwada, Bicholim, after villagers spotted a night soil tanker belonging to Bicholim municipal council (BMC) dumping sewage water near a protected site.

However, BMC chairperson Satish Gaonkar dismissed the development as a mere rumour.

The situation turned volatile after some villagers from Gaonkarwada a few weeks ago noticed a BMC night soil tanker emptying sewage water in the vicinity of 'Nimuzga', which is a protected site. Irate locals later submitted letters to the deputy collector, Bicholim MLA and health department to conduct an inquiry and take strong action against the municipality.

When contacted, Gaonkar sought to clarify that only water was released into his property. tnn
