Corporation approves 39 development projects worth ₹269 crore to be implemented in the city

Thrissur city will get a total makeover under the ₹269-crore Amritham project. The Corporation council approved 39 development projects, including a skywalk bridge at Sakthan Nagar, renovation of North bus stand, new water purification project at Peechi, and uninterrupted drinking water distribution system for the city.

The Amritham project will be implemented in five sectors such as drinking water distribution, sewage management, drainage canal construction, transportation, and green projects, for which detailed project reports were approved by the council.

Modernisation of the North bus stand will have financial support from South Indian Bank.

The first skywalk bridge in the State will come up at Sakthan Nagar at an estimate of ₹5.74 crore. The circular walk bridge will connect four centres around Sakthan Nagar such as Ekkanda Warrier Road, M.O. Road, Sakthan Nagar, and Kokkale.

The skywalk bridge is expected to reduce traffic congestion and accidents. The three-metre wide steel bridge will have eight entries and eight exits.

A foot overbridge will come at North bus stand and a subway at M.O. Road.

The comprehensive drinking water project will include a new water treatment plant and generator at Peechi.

A new pipeline will be laid for drinking water distribution.

A new water tank will come up at Ollur at a cost of ₹20 lakh. A five-lakh litre tank will come up at Kuttanellur. The projects will also include renovation of Cherur and Nellikkunnu pump houses and repair of water meters and pipelines.
