Top diplomats and officials from ASEAN and South Korea on Saturday said they considered India a land of opportunities for them to explore by strengthening bilateral ties.
Addressing an international conference organised by GITAM School of International Business, in association with Export Import Bank of India, here, Ambassador of Myanmar Moe Kyaw Aung said India’s ‘Act East’ Policy would contribute to the strategic partnership, specifically by improving connectivity with the member-countries of ASEAN.
The conference organised as part of silver jubilee celebration of India-ASEAN partnership was attended, among others, by Muhammad Azfar Abdullah, First Secretary, High Commission of Malaysia, Phonekeo Sakdavong, First Secretary, Embassy of Laos, Krong Kanit Rackcharoen, Thailand Consulate-General and Suresh Chukkapalli, honorary Consular General, South Korea.
Strategic partnership
Mr. Aung said strategic partnership with India by ASEAN-member States would facilitate trade, deep political dialogue and step up cooperation on security issues. He said regional connectivity would serve as key in promoting ASEAN-India under Kaladan Mutlimodal Transit Transport Project as ‘most viable’ pathways between India and Myanmar.
Mr. Chukkapalli said due to huge market, India had emerged as the most preferred nation in Asia Pacific and declared that for South Korea, India was among top five countries in exploring bilateral trade.
