Pimpri Chinchwad: Water connections will be regularised in Pimpri Chinchwad for all illegal buildings that came up between April 1, 2012, and December 31, 2015.
The state government had issued directives to all municipal corporations to regularise illegal constructions during that period.
The owners of illegal connections will have to submit applications for regularisation by June 30, 2018, civic officials said. Owners who do not pay water charges will have to pay 10% of annual charges. After regularisation, consumers will receive bills as per regular cycle.
Some consumers have water meters but do not have consumer numbers while there are some who do not have both. Former municipal commissioner Ashish Sharma had prepared a policy for regularisation of water connections after payment of fines. The standing committee had approved the proposal in August 2013.
While there are many illegal water connections, 4,000 have been regularised so far. Officials said the owners have been regularly using water without paying bills. If water meters are not repaired, consumers will have to pay average water tax bills as per meter readings.
There is a separate policy for slum dwellers having /not having meters. If water tax has not been paid or connection has been temporarily stopped, citizens will have to make a separate application for new connection, which will be given in two days.
The municipal corporation has appointed an agency for digital payment of property tax.
PCMC is developing a mobile app for payment of property tax, officials added.
