Renowned litterateur Chandrasekhar Rath passes away

Renowned Odia litterateur Chandrasekhar Rath passed away on February 9, 2018 at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar following age-related ailments. He was 89 and is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.

Rath has written several novels, short stories, essays and poems during his illustrious career.

About Chandrasekhar Rath
• Rath was born on October 17, 1929 in Balangir and completed his post-graduation in English from Lucknow University.

• Later, he joined Orissa Education Service in 1952 as lecturer in English and got retired from the service in 1987.

• Some of his acclaimed novels are Yantrarudha (The Instrumented), Asurya Upanivesh (The Sunless Colony) and Nav Jatak (Regenesis).

• He was also a good translator. He had translated a biography from Odia to English and also translated a few English poems into Odia language.

• Rath was conferred with several awards including Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award, Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award and Atibadi Jagannath Das Samman for his contribution in the field of literature.

• He was also nominated for the prestigious Padma Shri award this year.
