February is the month of love for all but the recent “honour killing” of a Delhi-based photographer Ankit Saexna by the family members of a woman with whom he was in a relationship has left the city youths in shock.
Ankit’s murder on a busy Delhi street has raised a question –when will we rise above hate and prove that love is stronger than any hate mongering on the basis of caste, creed or religion?
We asked this question to a few youngsters in and around the city who said they all want love and peace to prevail. Many say enough of killings have been done in the name of honour. They want that the principle of live and let live should be followed in our country which has become a boiling pot of hate crimes.
“It is unfortunate and sad to see that our society still has such a regressive mindset where a person is killed in the name of religious honour and what not. Where has humanity and love gone? What is even more unfortunate is the way political parties are trying to gain mileage out of it.”

“I met a woman from California recently. She had a hard time struggling to understand that a man could be killed because he was in love with a woman from another religion. She asked me so many questions that I was left embarrassed and ashamed of the reality. Getting married or not or to whom to get married should be a decision of an individual.”

“A murder is a murder and must be punished as such. More so, if it is of an innocent person who is fighting for love. All of us should condemn this act unequivocally. Even the Quran says: “Anyone who kills an innocent human being, it is as if he has killed the entire humanity...”
