Power minister Shrikant Sharma informed the Assembly that the government would replace all dangling electric wires at an estimated cost of Rs 5200 crore by December, 2019.
Replying to a question of SP member Nitin Agarwal, the Power minister said that the government had already spent Rs 76 crore so far while Rs 68 crore have been earmarked for the next fiscal.
However, opposition members were not convinced as they questioned how the government would arrange so much money when they had spent just Rs 140 crore so far.
Sharma said that for the last 10 to 30 years, the Power department did not change the worn out wires and the present BJP government was doing it on a war footing.
“We are changing the wires of all villages where the department is holding Saubhagya camp to distribute free power connections,” he said.
