TRS had promised purchase of crop by the government itself: MLC Akula Lalitha

The Zilla Parishad general body meeting held here on Friday, headed by the Chairman D. Raju, witnessed heated argument over the purchase and payment of remunerative price for red jowar crop, between the ruling and the Opposition party members.

Congress members demonstrated placards demanding the payment of profitable price to red jowar farmers and insisted a debate on the issue. Congress MLC Akula Lalitha pointed out that the TRS leadership had promised purchase of crop by the government itself, but later forgot its responsibility. She said that during the Congress rule it ensured the purchase of entire crop through Markfed and other agencies.

TRS MLA A. Jeevan Reddy (Armoor) took an exception to the remark saying that it was the Congress government which opened fire on red jowar farmers when they agitated for the payment of the amount after the crop was purchased. “The spent bullets are safe even today and hence the Congress has no moral right to criticise our party,” he said.

Meanwhile, members cutting across the party lines, expressed displeasure at bankers for refusing to sanction loans to beneficiaries under the economic support schemes.

Initiating the debate on the subject, govt. whip Gampa Govardhan said, sheep were distributed in Kamareddy district with the sole support of the government, without depending on bankers. Referring to an incident which he experienced in case of a beneficiary, Chairman Raju said that an SBI branch manager did not care to honour his recommendation. Bankers did not even care for MPDOs when they approached them with beneficiary lists.

In response, bankers promised the members that they would do the needful, provided lists were sent with specific beneficiaries. The meeting resolved to hold another general body soon on summer problems, to chalk out an action plan to solve them.

MLC V.G. Goud, MLA Hanmanth Shinde, M. Ram Mohan Rao and N. Satyanarayana, Collectors of Nizamabad and Kamareddy respectively, and CEO Govind were among those who attended.
