Thane tops cleanliness app downloading campaign

Thane: Thane city has jumped from 27 spot to secure the number one spot in a cleanliness app downloading campaign in the state in an awareness programme conducted as a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The city also ranked second in the country.

Later this month, a team from Delhi will be arriving the city to analyse the cleanliness survey and then only the actual position of the city in the cleanliness drive will be declared. As of today, 47,587 citizens have responded to the Thane Municipal Corporation’s (TMC) cleanliness app – Janagraha app.  The application, which helps citizens to upload their feedback to the civic authority about issues of sanitation, waste segregation and cleanliness was launched in December.

According to the survey norms, if 40,000 citizens download this app, 150 points will be given to civic authority and this gives Thane the edge. Special employees have been appointed for the Janagraha app’s awareness campaign. According to this, the number of downloading of the app till February 6 is 47,587. The number of active users is 14,328. On December 20, the Corporation was ranked 27th in the list of the app downloading and it took just one month to jump to the top spot.


“We have been doing several efforts for the citizens to participate actively in cleanliness drive and also be the part of this Janagrah app. These efforts are well paid off and we have jumped to number one and we are sure that we will stand first in the Country as well. Special employees have been appointed for this awareness of app.” said, Balaji Haldekar, official, Solid Waste Management Department.

199,837 redressal of grievances

The municipal corporation has resolved 199,837 complaints out of 201,405 complaints received on this app. In this app 55,676 citizens expressed satisfaction over the work done by the corporation. Only 772 citizens expressed discontent. This app is a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The survey that would be carried out from January to March will attempt to evaluate general cleanliness in the city with respect to six broad parameters.
