Osaka University Immunology Frontier Research Center Advanced Postdoc : Japan

Advanced Postdoc positions in immunology, bio-imaging and bioinformatics are offered by Osaka University, Immunology Frontier Research Center (IFReC) located in Osaka, Japan. The Advanced Postdoc researchers will be assigned to one of the laboratories in IFReC with a high standard salary (JPY 5.4M-7.3M), and conduct their research project with support and under the supervision of a principal investigator with sufficient research funds as well as their own additional grants (JPY 3M per year).

IFReC, directed by Prof. Shizuo Akira, was selected by The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) of Japan in 2007 as the best World Premier International (WPI) Research Center in immunology to create research results at the world's highest level. The scientific goal of IFReC is to understand the immune system comprehensively by visualizing the behavior, activation status, and interaction of immune cells in vivo, through the fusion of Immunology, Imaging science, and Bioinformatics. This approach is expected to ultimately allow for precise control of immune responses. Furthermore, based on the understanding of immune system, it will lead to applied research to develop new vaccines and immunotherapies against cancer, allergies and autoimmune diseases. The excellent scientific quality at IFReC is demonstrated in a number of publications (164 papers, 14%) in top journals (IF>14) out of a total number of publications (1,265 papers) in the term from 2007 to 2016. IFReC is an international research institute with English as its official language with more than a third of its researchers coming from outside Japan, and provides support for research as well as for a life in Japan.

Qualifications
Interested candidates must have obtained their doctorate degree within the past 8 years, have a strong background in immunology, bioimaging, and bioinformatics, and a demonstrated track record of research, relevant first author publications, and a plan of research to be conducted after appointment. The postdoc must work well in a diverse group and be able to communicate their ideas to others.

Term/Availability: 3 years. Available immediately but start date is negotiable.
Salary: International standard salary package (JPY 5.4M-7.3M) depending on experience and past performance, and research funding of JPY 3M per year.
