Educational mess

Sir — This refers to the report, “Posts of VCs are being auctioned in TN for last 10 years: Educationalist” (February 8). It is known that posts of Vice Chancellors are in the dominance of political parties at the helm and, therefore, these appointments are made primarily to protect political interests rather than considering the genuine merit of the candidates. The revelation by Prof M Anandakrishnan that crores of rupees dished out by Vice Chancellor aspirants would be recouped by them while appointing faculty members and other staffers, unmasks the existence of this disgraceful practice in higher strata educational bureaucracy.

An apex-level probe is needed to expose the culprits so as to regain people’s confidence in our educational establishments. Besides, the current mechanism for appointments of Vice Chancellors must be revamped with a comprehensive procedure, sans any loopholes is indeed imperative.
