DAYTONA BEACH — Under overcast skies and breezy conditions, ARCA stock cars got a head start on Speedweeks with a two-hour practice session at Daytona International Speedway on Thursday afternoon.
Dave Mader III, driving the No. 63 Chevrolet, topped the session with a lap of 180.781 mph over the 2.5-mile tri-oval.

Dave Mader III, driving the No. 63 Chevrolet, topped the session with a lap of 180.781 mph over the 2.5-mile tri-oval.
He was followed by Kirk Horton, No. 37 Chevy, with a 180.763 mph effort and Gus Dean’s lap of 180.752 mph in the No. 32 Chevy.
ARCA rookie Natalie Decker shot out of the gate early and topped the speed chart in the first hour of practice.
When the session was over, the 20-year-old driver was 14th overall at 179.993 mph. Decker drives the No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Toyota.
Rounding out the top-5 fastest laps were Will Rodgers and Codie Rohrbaugh. Rodgers, wheeling the No. 52 Ford, was clocked at 180.676 mph. Rohrbaugh posted a 180.502 mph lap.
Meanwhile, at the truck pad area of the Speedway paddock, there was another competition underway.
The USAC.25 quarter midget national schedule kicked off Thursday with more than 350 entries in 25 classes of competition.
NASCAR Cup Series drivers Kyle Larson and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., plus Jeff Burton and his son, Harrison, visited the .2-mile track Thursday in support of the USAC program.
The USAC.25 will continue through Sunday. There is no additional fee to watch the quarter midget races.
