Police arrested BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's Special Assistant Shamsur
Rahman Shimul Biswas and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) President Rajib Ahsan from the capital on Thursday.
Shimul was detained by Detective Branch (DB) of police in the city in connection with a case filed for his alleged involvement in subversive activities, police said.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Rajib Ahsan and two other members of the organisation were arrested after a clash in Naya Paltan near the BNP's headquarters, said Assistant Deputy Commissioner Shiblee Noman of DMP (Motijheel Zone).
An activist of JCD said a group of activists of JCD, the BNP's student wing, led by Rajib took out a protest procession around 4:45pm against the court verdict that sentenced Khaleda Zia a five-year imprisonment.
The clash started when police tried to disperse the demonstrators by charging batons. The JCD protesters also pelted brick chips at the law enforcers, he said.
In Chittagong, police detained 10 leaders and activists of BNP, including its City Unit Chief Shahdat Hossai, during clashes with police.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner SM Mostain Hossain said the BNP leaders and activists pelted the law enforcers with brickbats injuring eight of them.
