Brazil's most read newspapers stops publishing content on Facebook

Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo, which has the largest circulation in the country, reported that it will stop publishing content on Facebook after the social network reduced the visibility of professional journalism on the user pages. The decision is already in force, however, it will not prevent readers from continuing to share newspaper content on their personal Facebook pages.

In a statement, Folha de Sao Paulo said that the changes promoted by the social network "reinforce the tendency of the user to consume more and more content with which he/she has affinity, favouring the creation of bubbles of opinion and the propagation of 'fake news'".

The Brazilian newspaper said it had compiled data indicating that in January the total volume of interactions obtained by the 10 largest pages of Brazilian newspapers on Facebook fell by 32 percent over the same period of 2017. The Brazilian company also highlighted that it currently has 5.95 million followers on Facebook, being the largest Brazilian newspaper in this social network. 

Folha de Sao Paulo will maintain profiles updated daily in other social networks like Twitter and Linkedin.
