Mahesh Murthy arrested over allegations of sexual harassment

Mumbai, February 9

Start-up investor and managing partner of Seedfund Mahesh Murthy has been arrested by the Mumbai Police in connection with an alleged sexual harassment case filed in December last year, according to a tweet from the National Commission of Women (NCW).

The tweet from NCW read, “Based on a complaint filed at the Commission and following NCW’s intervention, #MaheshMurthy has been arrested by @MumbaiPolice today u/sec 354 IPC read with 67A of IT Act. @sharmarekha @minsitryWCD.”

Murthy, a serial entrepreneur and an angel investor, was arrested in arrested in Khar, Mumbai, after a Delhi-based women complained to the NCW against the investor for sexually harassing and stalking her on social media last year. The NCW had then registered a case against Murthy on December 30, 2017.

NCW had written to Maharashtra's Director General of Police regarding the alleged use of objectionable, derogatory and sexual remarks and obscene signs by the investor on social media platforms against the complainant and several other women in the past.

The 52 year-old Murthy is an engineering drop out and started his career as a salesman for Eureka Forbes before moving on to become the country head at Channel V in 1999.
