Patagonia - The Top Gear Patagonia episode was without a doubt one of the most memorable specials the production crew put together.

Celebrating the small-block V8

First aired in December 2014, the special was produced as a two-part episode, with former hosts Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond taking on a series of challenges to celebrate the anniversary of the small-block V8 engine.

To embark on their journey of Chile and Argentina, Hammond bought the iconic Ford Mustang, while May pulled up in a Lotus Espirit.

In unlikely fashion, Clarkson had bought a Porsche 928, with Hammond and May mocking Jezza for his 'dull' vehicle choice.

On an open road, by himself... Clarkson then opened up and explained why the the Porsche 928 will never be a boring car to him.

Clarkson revealed that in 1994, he received a call from his mother saying that his father had fallen ill and was rushed to hospital. He mentioned that he had the Porsche 928 on test that same week, and jetted off to the hospital with the chicken that he had prepared with the consideration that his mother might not have eaten that day.

With a bucking tone in his voice, Clarkson said that he arrived at the hospital with the chicken still warm and his father was still alive.

He said that his father died a half hour later and if didn't had a car as quick as the Porsche 928 at the time, he would not have been there in time to say goodbye to his dad.
