Controversial former Arizona sheriff and U.S. Senate candidate Joe Arpaio quoted rap star Eminem in his latest fundraising email this week.
The email pulls a quote from Eminem’s hit song “Lose Yourself,” the lead single from the soundtrack of the 2002 film “8 Mile” that was based primarily on Eminem’s upbringing in Detroit.
“To quote and paraphrase the singer, Eminem,” the email reads. “You only get one shot, do not miss your chance. … This opportunity comes once in a lifetime.”

Arpaio, the notorious Arizona sheriff who has made national headlines for his outspoken hard stance on immigration, racial profiling, and pardon from President Trump, is running in a crowded primary to replace Sen. Jeff Flake, an avid Republican critic of the president who announced last year his intention not to run for re-election.
Arpaio’s email goes on to attack Sen. Flake as “Senator Fake,” and promises to advance the president’s agenda if elected.
“Friend, we have a chance to make history, and I refuse to let this pass us by,” the email states. “If you want to send a Sheriff to Washington who will fight with President Trump to Make America Great Again, then stand with me today.”
Other candidates running to replace Flake include former State Sen. Kelli Ward who lost a bid to unseat Sen. John McCain in a 2016 Republican primary, and U.S. Rep. Martha McSally, a Republican moderate who is on Politico’s top 10 candidates to watch in 2018.
