Australia's limited-overs batsman Travis Head has penned a deal with Worcestershire as their overseas player across formats. Head will start his county stint from April and stay on until the T20 finals day, scheduled for September 15, while missing a couple of Championship fixtures in June when Australia have an ODI series and T20I to play in England.

Head harbours the dream of representing Australia in the longest format and has been encouraged by Cricket Australia to get some experience in the County circuit. Tim Curtis, the vice-chairman of Worcestershire expressed his delight at snapping up the 'ambitious' 24-year-old, praising his recent exploits for BBL champions Adelaide Strikers as well as his performance in the ODI against England in Adelaide where he made an 107-ball 96 while opening the batting.

"He has just captained Adelaide Strikers to the Big Bash title after playing a big part with the bat in the final and semi-final and played that fine innings against England in a recent ODI. But he is ambitious to play Test cricket and Cricket Australia have encouraged him and other young players to play cricket this summer," Curtis said.

Curtis also revealed that Head had a chat with England all-rounder Moeen Ali about joining the club.

"He is hungry to do well and play all types of cricket and he also spoke to Mo [Moeen Ali] in Australia and he gave him positive vibes about coming to Worcestershire. In addition to his batting, Travis is keen to develop his spin bowling and certainly in white ball cricket he is used in that role by the Strikers."
