Sewage pumps found non-functional

Vadodara: A surprise check by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) opposition leader at draining pumping stations in the city on Thursday night revealed that pumps in some of these had been switched off while some others were shut.

VMC opposition leader Chandrakant Shrivastava had conducted the check in wake of complaints of choked drainages and water contamination in the city. He said that he had raised the issue earlier in the general board meeting of the civic body and even taken up the issue with officials.

In a letter to the VMC commissioner, Shrivastava has stated that due to no response to his complaints he had to take a tour of the sewage pumping stations. He has demanded the contractors responsible for the maintenance and operations of the pumping stations should be black listed and remedial measures should be taken. tnn
