EE launches LTE home broadband service

EE is launching a LTE broadband service for home, targeting people in rural areas unable to receive fast fixed broadband. The company offers a home router with data package starting from GBP 35 for 50 GB per month, and customers can have an outdoor antenna installed for GBP 100 to boost the 4G signal. 

The mobile operator estimates there are around 580,000 homes in the UK unable to receive broadband of at least 10 Mbps. Customer trials of its home broadband service in the Northern Fells area of Cumbria have delivered speeds of over 100Mbps. 

The 4GEE Home Router has been designed specifically for the service and can connect up to 32 devices simultaneously. EE's 4G network covers 90 percent of the UK’s landmass, equal to more than 99.6 percent of UK homes. 

Additional service plans are available going up to GBP 60 per month for 200 GB. The router is offered free with an 18-month contract. Customers who also take EE mobile service receive an extra 5 GB free each month for their phone.
