Man allegedly stabs brother over scrap metal

Durban - A KwaZulu-Natal man has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed his brother during an altercation in Phoenix, north of Durban on Friday.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram said his officers were on patrol when they noticed the two men involved in a fist fight.

"As the officer exited his vehicle to intervene, one of the men drew an Okapi pocket knife and stabbed the other individual in the back. The suspect then fled on foot. The RUSA officer pursued and apprehended the suspect. The knife used in the stabbing was recovered in his possession."

Balram said it was established that the brothers make a living by collecting scrap.

"While sorting the scrap they collected today, the two began arguing regarding the ownership of some of the items. A fist fight ensued, resulting in the stabbing. The suspect was placed under arrest while his brother was transported to hospital for medical attention."
