A week or two before Valentine's Day is the best time to start prepping up for the occasion. If you aren't already on a cleanse-tone-moisturise routine, now's the time to start. Choose a good quality face wash that cleanses well without drying your skin in this weather. Follow this up with a toner and light moisturiser that suits your skin. Make sure you follow this routine twice a day. It will give you the kind of healthy, facial glow that no amount of make-up can provide.

Getting a new haircut will not only surprise your valentine but will also add a touch of oomph to your overall look. Going super feminine is a good idea on Valentine's Day. You could give yourself a good blow dry to lend a nice, approachable bounciness to your hair. The long, tousled look also works for a romantic date provided you have the hair length to back this look. Applying a good quality hair mousse and blow drying the hair should do the trick. Braids and twists are also very much in vogue this season. You could opt for this style for a cute, lovable and dainty appearance.

Do something different in terms of make-up to distinguish how you look. A special date requires some special attention. If you're someone who usually uses soft or nude lip colour, add a punch to your pout with red lipstick. The shade is likely to make your date swoon and turn some heads. It is a gorgeous colour and the look is easier to pull off than you may think. Just keep the rest of your make-up clean and simple to really highlight your lips.

Your eyes are the most expressive aspect of your face. To rivet anyone's attention, they must be done up the right way. For a romantic date, going heavy on the kohl may not be such a good idea. Instead opt for soft shades of pink for your eye lids and spice things up with a good mascara. For a more dramatic effect, apply mascara to the lower lashes as well. If you want to apply multiple coats, do it while the first coats of mascara are still wet - applying a new coat to dry mascara will result in clumps.
