Indian Railways to terminate 13,000 'absentee' employees to improve performance

NEW DELHI: Under the direction from Railways Minister Piyush Goyal, the Indian Railways has identified over 13,000 employees in its ranks who are on "unauthorised" leave for a long time. The railways is all set to terminate their services under the disciplinary action.

The move is aimed at improving the performance of the organisation and to boost the morale of sincere and diligent employees, said the public transporter.

"A massive drive to identify long term absentees in various establishments of Railways has been initiated. As a result of the said drive, Railways have detected more than 13 Thousand employees out of about 13 lakhs employees who are on unauthorised absence for a long time," the railways said in a statement.

The railways have also instructed all officers and supervisors to remove these employees.

"Railways have instructed all officers and supervisors to weed out these employees from the employees' rolls after following due process," the statement stated.
