State Congress has gone aggressively for the upcoming urban local bodies elections across the State. Party’s State in-charge RPN Singh, PCC chief Ajoy Kumar and Congress Legislative Party leader Alamgir Alam put their heads together with zonal coordinators, district presidents and municipal election committee leaders to chalk out the strategy.
The party is of the view the local body elections would be a litmus test for the Congress’ reach among the voters ahead of the poll-packed years. “2018 is a challenging year for the Congress party. We have a new party president in the form of Rahul Gandhi who has stressed on regrouping Congressmen and their voters. The polls coming in the form of ULBs and panchayats would test our preparations for the future,” said RPN Singh flanked by his deputy Umang Singhar.
Directing district president and leaders of different cells of the party, Singh gave them 15-days time to form the formal structure at every level starting from panchayat to block and district and also for providing right place for those who are working tirelessly. “We want our organisational presence right up to the village levels,” he said.
Coming to State politics, the PCC chief hit out the BJP-led Government terming it the most corrupt dispensation so far. “Entire Jharkhand is living with the sting of their corrupt actions. Poor and destitute are being robbed of their rights. People are dying out of hunger, farmers are committing suicides while the Government is busy wasting public money in the name of Momentum Jharkhand,” said Ajoy Kumar. He also cited cancelation of MGNREGA job cards and ration cards which has happened all over State in the name of Aadhaar authentication.
Party’s Pakur legislator Alamgir Alam alleged the Government for strangulating democracy in the State and referred to continuous disruptions inside the Assembly. “The Government is fleeing away from the questions relating to people of the State. They have allowed the House to function in this manner for the last two years,” said Alam.
On Friday, the leaders would again sit with in-charges and members of different committees formed after the State unit went for a major reshuffle. All important election manifesto committee, campaign committee, Pradesh Congress Committee’s different wings and others would discuss the party’s plan and the directions coming to them from the Congress high command.
