The two Singaporean hikers who went missing in the Gunung Pulai Forest Reserve in Johor on Monday were rescued by boat by the Malaysian authorities yesterday.

Mr Dominick Tan Chang Xiang and Ms Lum Jie, both 27, were spotted at a lake near the Ulu Choh Dam by an aerial search team in a helicopter at 11.24am yesterday, said search and rescue operations commander Mohd Khairi S. Zainudin. The hikers were about 50km away from where their last phone signal was detected on Monday night.

Mr Mohd Khairi said the two were right to head for the lake, where they were more visible.

The duo had suffered some cuts and bruises, but were otherwise unharmed.

The alarm was raised at about 6pm on Monday, when the hikers made a distress call to the Malaysian police after losing their way.
