MACHESNEY PARK — The 121,000-square-foot Target store at 9833 N. Alpine Road will receive a facelift this spring, village officials announced Thursday.
The Gateway Shopping Center department store is among the first of 500 Target Corp. stores the company plans to renovate in 2018 and 2019.
The renovation will include a “complete re-imaging” of the exterior, starting with stone-wood siding and a contemporary new color scheme, according to a news release the village released Thursday.
Upgrades will happen throughout the store’s interior. Flooring and ceilings will be replaced, along with all of the fixtures where products are presented. A new Starbucks is also planned.
“Target invests in its highest performing stores and we’re pleased that the Machesney location is a strong store for the company,” said Machesney Park Village President Steve Johnson.
Construction is expected to begin in April. Village officials said Target wants the renovation completed by mid-July, in time for back-to-school shopping.
