When Super Mario Run first hit mobile devices, many were put off by the game’s relatively high price in comparison to other games on mobile. Granted, Super Mario Run is a cut above the usual guff on the app store, but it’s telling that Nintendo changed course when it put out Fire Emblem Heroes and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. Now, with Mario Kart Tour on the distant horizon, pricing is already being talked about.

According to a Wall Street Journal reporter named Takashi Mochizuki, DeNA CEO Isao Moriyasu said that the upcoming kart racer will be “free-to-start”. Some believe that this means they’ll be taking the Super Mario Run approach while others argue that Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem are technically free to start, too. Only time will tell how this pans out, hopefully it won’t be too much longer before Nintendo has more to say.

What do you think? Would you shell out more cash for a quality game? Or would you rather it be free and have microtransactions of some kind? Share your thoughts in the comment below.
