Oprah Winfrey Says Reese Witherspoon Showed PTSD Signs After Harvey Weinstein Scandal

Oprah Winfrey is opening up about Reese Witherspoon‘s initial reaction to the Harvey Weinstein scandal breaking.

The 64-year-old talk show host says that the 41-year-old Big Little Lies star showed signs of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) after sexual assault allegations were made against the disgraced film producer, 65, beginning back in October.

At that time, the A Wrinkle in Time co-stars were shooting together when they had a discussion about Harvey with a group of women.

“This was like two days after the Harvey scandal had broken in The New York Times,” Oprah told Salma Hayek during a special live taping of the podcast SuperSoul Conversations, as reported by Entertainment Tonight.

“Everyone, including Reese – I’ve said this to her – was acting like, I was seeing some of the girls at my school behave, who were suffering from PTSD,” Oprah continued. “Everybody was acting like they were afraid and they were having the conversation.”

“And I remember Reese saying, ‘Oh god, this is just so upsetting. And someone mentions his name, I start tearing up. And every time I hear someone else speak, it just causes me to be upset and I haven’t slept in two days,’” Oprah added. “So I said, ‘Jeez, you guys are suffering from PTSD. Did something happen to you?’ Nobody said anything at the time.”

It was later that month at the Elle Women in Hollywood event that Reese revealed during her speech that she was sexually assaulted by a director at age 16.

Never liked Reese. There’s always been something unsincere and fake about her.

So…….Once again………WHY? Didn’t the “POSTER CHILD” for Drama say anything? Answer: Because at the time it wasn’t worth her time. Wasn’t a BIG story and Oprah will never address serious causes unless she can be front and center!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So Oprah is now a psychiatrist ….. is there no end to this woman’s resume?

When is Oprah going to go back to her talk shows. First she’s said to be running for Pres. now she’s a doctor. I think everyone took the sexual abuse seriously until the media & Hollywood idiots got wind of it and started a “Me Too” movement then it became a joke. I think everyone in Hollywood wanted to get into the picture. Too bad because they ruined it for the real victim’s.

  • Sansa Squad

Anyone who doesn’t support the #MeToo movement does not care about victims, full stop. Like it or not, the “Hollywood idiots” have the platform and public visibility needed to turn this into a cultural conversation, and I’m thankful for the ones who’ve stepped up to do that. As a sexual assault survivor (or, as you put it, a “real victim”) I can tell you that the only people “ruining it” for me are people like you who criticize ANYONE brave enough to talk about this very real issue. Thanks.

  • Sansa Squad

Oprah has been addressing topics like assault and abuse for literal decades (since way before it was “popular” or “a big story”) and is an abuse survivor herself. She used her show to bring it into the cultural conversation and should probably take MORE credit for being a key champion of this movement, but instead she continues to highlight other people’s stories. Instead of criticizing her for whatever it is you think she isn’t doing, focus on what YOU are doing to support the cause – the world will be a better place because of it.

Reese is a sexual assault survivor, and survivors of sexual assault and abuse frequently experience PTSD. I think her point was, in observing people’s reactions, she realized how many people had been affected and were struggling with their own trauma. Hardly disgraceful…

  • nikki

Thank you for the drama. I’m a survivor as well but when idiots with pink pussy hats turn it into a “hate a politician” I turn it off. When the Black lives matter” march pretending to be supporting sexual assault victims it makes me ill, and what really pisses me off is when an “ex model or star that has had no gigs or movie offers come on T.V. all teary eyed with a story that’s 30 years old, changes their story over & over again yet to get relevant and get into the camera. Sorry for what you went through. Hope you reported it and went to the hospital as soon as you could. If you didn’t then you have to get over it.

O.M.G. Why don’t you stop putting everyone with a different opinion than you down. It’s like Bullying in school. It was a big thing for a couple of years now it died down WHY? It didn’t stop but people got sick of listening to the same old story over & over again so they turned it off making the talk show host find other topic’s. It won’t be long before this topic changes as well and they’ll move on to some other story.

Ok Sansa we’ll all cry for you tonight now why not go get help and stop playing the victim card. How many times are you going to be on here?

So tired of both of these weirdos. I use to be a big fan of Reese, even defended her when the ‘do you know who I am’ incident happened. But this is bs. She hangs with the Weinstein enabler, now claims ptsd, next the #metooptsd will start, in months want money to fund a mo and curly show.

You can’t tell people they don’t care, you have no idea.

    You need counseling

A reliable BG site has reported a few times that Reese paid off some of her husband’s accusers who came forward with stories of harassment, something she doesn’t seem to be willing to admit.

I’m sorry you have so much hate in your heart and I hope you’re able to find peace and the help you need. Sorry for what you went through too – I truly hope someday you’ll be able to have a polite and productive conversation about it. (In the meantime, try empathy! It feels better, trust me.) For now, I’ll be playing this victim card of mine and blocking you, but stay blessed, nikki!

I have trouble believing that anyone who could be dissuaded from supporting this movement for the reasons listed above ever truly cared in the first place. If you’re looking for excuses to shut down and stop listening, there’s a problem. (And maybe that problem is you don’t have the capacity to take on other people’s pain and just don’t *want* it to be true! It may not come from a place of malice, but it still doesn’t help the victims.) But hey, what do I know? I need counseling, apparently!

It’s item 25 in the January section but if you don’t want to look, this is what was posted:

‘This A list mostly movie actress who is an Academy Award winner/nominee is married. She recently wrote a very large check to a woman who claims she was harassed by the husband of the actress. Can’t have that coming out right now with all of the things the actress has been preaching. I notice she didn’t file for divorce or anything either. She is just rug sweeping.’

I know some refuse to believe BG sites but this one is reliable and has wrote about a lot of things that were later confirmed.
