Even as the lawyers of ex-IPS officer Bharati Ghosh cried foul questioning the judicial propriety of the State CID’s repeated raids on their client’s properties, a large contingent of intelligence sleuths on Wednesday swooped down on a cluster of five apartments allegedly belonging to the former senior cop and recovered trunks load of all such articles necessary to incriminate her.
After more than 8-9 hours marathon raid the sleuths fished out five trunk loads of incriminating documents, sources said adding the= inventories included “sensitive Government files,” 57 bottles of pricey foreign liquor and documents like applications for jobs and fire-arm licenses.
Ghosh was once Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s “blue-eyed officer” who was allegedly employed to brutally suppress the opposition voice in Jangalmahal area almost employing the same and other methods that were being used against her in the instant reference.
Intriguingly the officials on a previous day’s raid in the same cluster of five apartments. at Madurdaha in east Kolkata recovered Rs 2.40 lakh in cash, huge amount of gold and other things leading the lawyers to wonder as to why the officials could not recover the items found on Wednesday on the earlier occasion.
Ghosh who resigned her post as the West Midnapore SP on December 28 after she was unceremoniously transferred to an insignificant posting was currently out of town and was contemplating legal action sources said. A case had however been filed in Calcutta High Court by her husband who had since reported sick and was currently in hospital demanding transfer of the investigation to the CBI for the sake of impartiality.
